Call for Applications: Tenure-track Assistant Professor of Arabic, Macalester College
October 5, 2019
The Macalester College Department of the Classical Mediterranean and Middle East invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Arabic. Candidates must demonstrate passion and ability for teaching Modern Standard Arabic at all levels, as well as research and teaching interests in the literature, history, cultures, and/or societies of the classical Arab world. Strengths in pre-Islamic literature, interdisciplinary approaches to literature, and in literary theory and analysis are particularly welcome. This is the sole position devoted entirely to Arabic within a thriving and interdisciplinary undergraduate program conceived inclusively as the area study of the Mediterranean basin and the Middle East in classical antiquity. Candidates should have experience independently developing and leading an Arabic language program.
We are especially interested in applicants dedicated to excellence in both teaching and research in a liberal arts setting and committed to working with students of diverse backgrounds. The Department of the Classical Mediterranean and Middle East is deeply committed to the College’s distinctive mission of educational excellence with a special emphasis on internationalism, multiculturalism, and service to society. Strong candidates will have a record of experience or demonstrated commitment to teaching diverse students.
