Seyed Masoud Noori

Dr. Noori is a Global Academy Scholar in partnership with the Middle East Studies Association (MESA). He is also a scholar in residence at New York University School of Law. His other recent academic posts include positions at Trinity University (San Antonio, TX), NYU Law School, Emory Law School, and National University of Ireland, Galway. Prior to 2010, Masoud was a faculty member at Mofid University, Qom, Iran, where he served at the Center for Human Rights Studies (2004-2009) in several leadership positions, including establishing the first law clinic in Iran (2007).

Dr. Noori is a law professor, Islamic issues researcher, and journalist focusing on the relationship between Islamic law/Sharia and the international human rights law system. His interests include legal clinics and clinical legal education, children’s rights, Islam and the environmental crisis, interfaith dialogue, constitutions in Muslim countries, religion, and politics in the Middle East.

In addition to a Ph.D. in Private Law, he has more than 20 years of experience in studying, teaching, and researching Islam at Qom Seminary, including nine years at the level of ijtihad in jurisprudence and principles of jurisprudence.

Hassaan Shahawy

Hassaan Shahawy is a student at Harvard Law School. At HLS, he was elected the first Muslim president of the Harvard Law Review, and also served as the co-president of the Muslim Law Students Association and as a Lead Article Editor with the Harvard Civil Rights-Civil Liberties Law Review. He is interested in legal history, criminal law, environmental law, and property. He also has studied Islamic law traditionally in various countries around the world.

Prior to HLS, he received a BA in History and Near Eastern Studies at Harvard University, then an MA and PhD in Oriental Studies at the University of Oxford, which he attended as a Rhodes Scholar.

Hani Ramadan is a PhD candidate in Histories and Cultures of Muslim Societies, in the department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations (NELC), Harvard. His main focus is on Quranic Studies and Sufism. His MA dissertation (American University of Beirut) focused on the methodology of the Sufi interpretation of the Quran.
