DESCRIPTION:From the organizers: \nFrom 6 to 7 November\, the international conference ‘Ruling Bodies: Islamic Law\, Embodiment\, and the Anthropology of Normativity’ will take place at the Institute for Islamic Theology at Paderborn University. \nThe conference will focus on the question of how Islamic traditions conceive of human beings in the context of normativity\, physicality\, responsibility\, affectivity and vulnerability. Papers from the fields of Islamic law\, kalām\, Sufism\, anthropology and ethics will examine how human beings are shaped\, disciplined and reimagined in Islamic discourses and practices. \nThe panels will address\, amongst other topics\, normative anthropologies\, embodied practices\, affective life\, and contemporary bioethical and technological challenges.
