We are delighted to announce that applications are now open for the SABLA 2025 Summer Arabic Intensive Program, hosted by the Sultan Qaboos Cultural Center (SQCC) in Washington, D.C.
About the Program:
SABLA is a five-week intensive Arabic language and cultural immersion program designed for current undergraduate and graduate students, as well as recent graduates. The program offers courses at three proficiency levels: Mid Beginner, Mid Intermediate, and Mid Advanced, focusing on Modern Standard Arabic (MSA). Classes are conducted by experienced instructors using a proficiency-based approach that emphasizes listening, speaking, reading, writing, and grammar skills.
Program Details:
* Dates: June 16 – July 17, 2025
* Schedule: Monday to Thursday, 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
* Location: Sultan Qaboos Cultural Center, Washington, D.C.
* Eligibility:
* Current college or university students and recent graduates will be considered
* Participants must be 19 years of age and up.
* Scholarship Coverage: Tuition and instructional materials
* Note: Participants are responsible for airfare to D.C., accommodation, meals, excursions, and other personal expenses. SQCC does not provide housing; students must arrange their own accommodation.

* Completed online application form
* Resume
* Two essays:
* English essay (300–500 words) discussing how participation in SABLA will help achieve your future goals and how you plan to incorporate Arabic language study into your academic or career plans
* Arabic essay (approximately 175 words) introducing yourself to the program staff, including your personal and professional interests and goals
* Two letters of recommendation, including one from an Arabic instructor
* Unofficial transcripts
Cultural Enrichment:
Beyond classroom instruction, SABLA offers integrated cultural activities, including:
* Weekly lectures on Arab history, society, and culture with a focus on Oman
* Movie screenings
* Visits to museums, libraries, and Middle Eastern restaurants in D.C.
* Guest lectures conducted in Arabic
