Journal of Islamic Law Volume 7

We are please to announce the publication of the seventh volume of the open-access, peer-reviewed Journal of Islamic Law! This volume brings together five contributions that span a wide range of questions in Islamic legal studies: the judicial treatment of religious-only marriages under English matrimonial law; the historical development of the doctrine of excommunication (takfīr) in the thought of Ibn Ḥanbal, Ibn Taymiyya, and Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Wahhāb; the reconsideration of Islamic insurance (takāful) through Mālikī legal sources; the dynamics of social coercion, gendered obligation, inheritance gifts in late Mālikī fatwās from the Moroccan highlands; and the celebration of the Prophet’s birth in British India through Aḥmad Raẓā Khān Barelwī’s fatwās on the Mawlid.

Contributors to this volume include Muhammad Zubair Abbasi (Royal Holloway University of London),  Habiba Afridi (independent scholar), Abdulrahman Alazemi (Kuwait University), Aria Nakissa (Universitas Islam Internasional Indonesia), and Osman Qazi (Qatar Finance and Business Academy).
